Springville Deseret Industries Grand Opening

The crowds were large, the speeches were short, and spirits were high at the new Springville Deseret Industries Grand Opening on Thursday, September 27.

Local dignitaries, representatives from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and members of the Springville-Mapleton communities gathered to celebrate the opening of this beautiful new facility. The line of people waiting to be the very first shoppers stretched around the building and back to the neighboring Bishop’s Storehouse. The Springville marching band provided music, Cosmo Cougar mixed with the crowd, and Miss Hobble Creek Kte Keech cut the ribbon.

“We’re excited to have this Grand Opening today,” said Springville Mayor Wilford W. Clyde. “I remember hoeing beets here, when this was a welfare farm. And you know what, I’ve been driving to Provo all these years to make donations – but now we can all donate do it right here. Deseret Industries offers employment opportunities and helps so many. We’re happy to welcome them to our community.”

Representatives from the LDS Church expressed thanks to the community for its support. They told the crowd “Deseret Industries offers jobs, training, hope, and a second chance to many, many people. You give us donations, we give people a second chance. When you shop at DI, you’re doing much more than just buying stuff.”
